Passionxproject x #BahamasFashionWeek

Can you call something a passion if you’re not constantly working on it? I wonder that all the time when I think about my @passionxproject Instagram page. I’d like to think I’m passionate about it and when I actually complete an interview and transcribe it and hear the gems people drop, it invigorates me. However, I often let things in the way of me just doing it - work, time constraints, awkwardness, no one to come with me, lack of leads, fear of approaching strangers and other excuses if we’re keeping it real.

During Bahamas Fashion Week, I decided I was going to shut down my excuses and do my best to get several features during the 3 day event. I ended up only going one of the days but still got a decent amount of features on that one day. But after all of my dedication to getting those interviews, I got the crushing blow that the computer crashed and all of the pictures from that night were gone. I’ll be honest I was pissed. I finally stepped outside of my comfort zone and got interviews from mostly strangers and all of it was gone.

It took me a few days to regroup. How can you have an IG project with no pictures? I got myself together and conducted a twitter poll to see how I could work around having no pictures, and featuring them here on my blog was the overwhelming winner. I’m still going to make some of my favorite quotes into IG pictures but at least here you get a chance to see more of the longform responses.

I present to you @passionxproject at #BahamasFashionWeek:

I think one day when I become a veterinarian I’ll be really happy to treat animals that have been extremely injured. I remember one time these dogs ripped my cat to shreds and we took her to the vet and they sewed that right up. I was so happy and so grateful because when the vet was done it was like nothing ever happened to my cat. I would like to be that person for kids.
I love fashion designing because when I used to buy clothing it was because of the way I felt in the clothing. I never used to buy it because ‘oh I can wear this tonight, or oh this is pretty or this or that’. I wore it because I wanted to feel a certain type of way and that’s how I want other people to feel when they wear my clothing. When I design something for someone and they tell me they feel confident or that they feel beautiful and that they got compliments and the compliments made them feel even better, that’s my favorite part because that’s how I want people to feel.
I love the sewing part of fashion. I also love the creativity part of it where you can be your own trendsetter, where you can design your own things. Whatever comes into your mind you can transform it into something that you can wear.
I love music and entertainment because it started off as something that was therapeutic for me. I’d just write my feelings. I’d write what was going on in my life and everything. Then one day it turned into wait this could be a rap, this could be music, I could actually make this a thing and be good at it. Once that happened, everything went from there.
Everyday I want to do something with media production because of the excitement it brings and how it makes people feel. That makes me want to keep going. You can take a photo or a video and the fact that you’re recording someone’s memory or being a part of their memory is huge. When something happens and they look back on it they’ll be like oh KB did that. It makes you feel good because they’re excited and they’re proud and enjoy the stuff you do. It feels good inside to know that you made some else happy with your craft and the work that you do.

That‘s some of my favorite parts. I saved some just for Instagram! Be sure to follow the page on IG @passionxproject. Also if you can think of people that are worth a feature, be sure to comment below, send me an email or tweet me. I want to keep this going for a long time.
