Confessions of a Lipstick Addict: Covergirl Lip Lava
If you read the first blog in this series, you're well aware of my affinity for lipsticks and the way I search them out. I don't recall if someone pointed out the Lip Lava to me or if I ran into it during my usual perusal of Instagram for new makeup, but I do remember seeing it first online. Even though I hate lip gloss, it was intriguing to me for some reason. My disdain for lip gloss should have been a red flag but the pigmentation seemed worth it.
Initially, I found some of the colors in my local grocery store, but they had just been put out so there wasn't a price on them as yet. I think I picked up 3 at the time (the bight orange, pink & purple) and because there wasn't a price, the lady scanned them at $3 each even though the retail price was about $11. That was a huge win for me so I looked the lipstick up on Instagram even more and decided to look for other colors in CVS. CVS had the full display so I picked up a few more like the true lipstick addict I was and still am.
Prior to purchasing the new colors, I swatched the bright ones and thought shit these colors are bomb, the rest of the colors are probably just as good. That was false. The other colors I purchased barely showed on my lips - it just looked like glitter, gloss and gloopiness. The formula was so thick and sticky but so runny at the same damn time. Have I mentioned how much I hate gloss? Because I really, really, really hate lip gloss. If I could wear matte lipstick everyday, I would.
This is something I 100% got duped into purchasing because of the internet. I have worn the pink one a couple times because like I said the pigmentation on the really bright colors is amazing. However, it just bleeds everywhere - on my teeth, my lips, my clothes, wherever. I tried to wear the purple a few times but ended up rubbing it off and switching to matte lipstick halfway through the day. The other colors I literally haven't worn since the day I purchased them.
I guess I'm lucky that I paid a way cheaper price for some of them because it was a huge waste of money. I think it was a lesson that I definitely shouldn't be buying lip gloss. Some people wear them so effortlessly but as for me, I'll stick to the rivers and the lakes that I'm used to.
If you've tried the lip lava, let me know what you think of it in the comments. I's also love to hear what items you think I have in my collection that you'd like me to talk about next.
