Confessions of a Lipstick Addict: Covergirl Lipsticks

Confessions of a Lipstick Addict: Covergirl Lipsticks

Hi there faithful readers!  I know you guys tend to like the personal life stories more than these lipstick posts, but I'm trying to be a consistent poster and this week my inspiration was at an all time low.  So I'm back with what I know best - LIPSTICK.  Today's post features Covergirl's lipstick, which I don't wear often at all, but since I'm participating in #NoBareLips30, I've reached for lipsticks I don't wear as often or haven't worn before.

Where do I start with Covergirl?  They are not my favorite brand BY FAR.  In fact there's probably a lot more reasons I can list that I dislike them than I can reasons I like them.  However, they're a drugstore brand, they're easy to find and they're inexpensive, so I keep picking up more when I really don't need to.  For me, pretty much every color that I own looks alike.  Now I don't know if that's a reflection on me or on the brand, but I actually swatched these on my arm (one photo with flash and one without) how much they can look alike.  At one point I had a red lipstick from Covergirl that stood out from the crowd but I didn't like it on me so I gave it away.

Another thing I don't really like with Covergirl lipsticks is that all of them seem to have a foily, metallic look to them that I don't really care for.  The nudes, the pinks, the plums, all of them have some sort of shimmery finish.  The metallic finish seems to be a thing with older lipsticks and Covergirl lipsticks all have that old makeup smell too.  It's not pleasant at all like the mild vanilla scent of Mac or Colourpop.  Instead it smells more like mothballs or sleeping in grandma's room.

Lastly, one large thing I don't like is that all of the colors seem a bit light for my skin tone.  I often have to blend or use pencils to make them attractive - and between that and the metallic finish, I just don't have a desire to wear them.  Now, one thing I do like about Covergirl lipstick is the shades available in the Queen collection.  My Queen collection lipstick used to be my favorite work lipstick for over a year, even with the metallic finish.  Most of them are light years better than the regular Covergirl lipsticks for women of color.  While I only own one lipstick from that collection, I have swatched more of them in stores before, but just didn't feel the need to own anymore Covergirl lipsticks.

Honestly, I could probably toss the vast majority of them, but occasionly I participate in lipstick challenges and end up creating a look like the photo below.  By the way, the reason I got to pull out the Covergirl lipstick is because it's Red & Pink week for #NoBareLips30 and I wanted to wear pinks I don't wear all the time - because I wear pink lips A LOT.

I'm wearing Covergirls's Coquette Orchid (375) and Enchantress Blush (365).

In the event you're wondering, the colors I own are: Enchantress Blush (365), Coquette Orchid (375), Hypnotic (220), Coffee Crave (275), Euphoria (360), Creme (256) and from the Queen Collection, Regal Raspberry (Q435).  I provided the names and numbers because I have noticed that Covergirl often changes the name and packaging but the number is the same or similar.  So depending on the year, you may find the number of the lipstick with a new name.

Comment below to let me know how you feel about Covergirl's lipsticks and if I should continue to show swatches and/or pictures of me wearing the lipsticks for the lipstick series going forward.
