Confessions of a Lipstick Addict: NYX Wicked Lippies
Hi there! If you're here for the first time, welcome. If you've been here before, thanks for coming back. If you follow me on social media (@kissmyelite on Twitter & Instagram, @zinatakara on Snapchat and YouTube) you may be well aware of my affinity for lipstick. In fact, when I decided I should start this series, I counted over 75 lipsticks - a few were missing so my count isn't 100% accurate. While cleaning out my makeup box and my lipstick bag (yes, I have so many lipsticks they have to be housed in a separate container) I decided the world just needed my input on every single lipstick I own.
If you agree with me, or if you just want to know about some lipsticks so you too can own as many as I do, keep reading. If you don't fit into either of those categories, keep reading anyway. Today I'm focusing on the NYX Wicked Lippies collection. I think this collection came out around Halloween 2014. One of my mutual twitter followers hit me up about them - shout out to makeup twitter - and I immediately went on the hunt.
When I'm interested in a lipstick, I search the hashtag on Instagram to see swatches. I also hit up YouTube and Google. If I'm spending my money I want to ensure it's going to look good on brown skin. Sometimes I even search the product on Twitter, like I said, shout out to makeup twitter!
Initially, I think I ordered 4 colors on the NYX website - Betrayal, Risque, Trickery and Power. I figured that Betrayal, Risque & Trickery would be my foray into wild lipstick colors. Up until that point I was a strict Ruby Woo or pink lipstick wearer. Maybe a deep brick during the fall & winter seasons but nothing too outrageous. I figured that Power would be a more wearable color if I wasn't comfortable with the other 3. When they arrived, I ended up liking Power the least. It was too blah to fit into the collection for me. I don't think I've worn it since I swatched it so that makeup Twitter could see what it looked like.
I loved loved loved Betrayal and Trickery. Betrayal got me hooked on super deep purple lipsticks. The only thing I didn't like is that it would leave my lips stained pink. Risque was another super dope color. I would wear it while running errands with nothing else on my face but foundation, brows and mascara. Obviously a green lipstick drew a few looks but I loved it. Trickery was also bomb. It shifted between being green and gold and made for a beautiful shade for daily or nightly wear.
I loved the lipsticks so much that when I finally fond them in a local Ulta, I swatched the rest and ended up buying 2 more - Wrath and Envy. During that time, I think blue lipstick was super popular so I wanted in on the fun. I have worn Envy a couple times, sometimes people love it, sometimes people hate it, and I honestly feel the same way about it. It also bleeds like crazy, worse than all of the other colors. Wrath was a dope metallic, bronzey, 90s lipstick to me. However, I don't reach for it much, if at all.
Overall, I'm glad I purchased items from this collection because it opened my eyes to more daring colors. But if I could go back, I would have bought less lipsticks. But hey, a lipstick addict doesn't think about these things when shopping. All of the lipsticks just say BUY ME!
